Royal Oak History
In 1839 a hostelry is not mentioned but the building on the site that The Royal Oak now stands on was occupied by a John and Thomas Heath. Thirty years down the line to 1899 and the building is now named The Royal Oak and is occupied by one Thomas White who also combined the trade of a cooper with his occupation at The Royal Oak.
The next date that bears any relevance is 1908 when The Royal Oak is mentioned to now be owned by the Anglo-Barvarian Brewery ltd. which is suprising as this brewery is situated in Shepton Mallet, Somerset.
The last date that could be traced to have any relevance is 1911 when the building is passed into the care of one Stanley Roswell.
As far as it is known the building has been a public house since 1899 when Thomas White owned the building, all the way up to the present day. It is not possible to trace every single owner of the building, but it is fair to say it has seen quite a few all the way from Stanley Roswell to Maggie, who runs the building and business successfully today.
